STUDY ROUTE / 01

Make Japanese a path you can follow

You do not need to finish every resource at once. Hear and read the sounds first, use vocabulary and grammar to understand sentences, and then bring it all together in short texts. Start where you are.

THE JOURNEY

Find your starting point

If you are new to Japanese, begin with kana and basic pronunciation. If you can already read kana, start building understanding with N5 vocabulary and short sentences. When preparing for the JLPT, use practice questions to guide your review instead of making them your only study method. You can save your progress at every step.

Study steps

01 · Sounds and kana

Learn to tell hiragana, katakana and the basic sounds apart. Listen to one sound, say it aloud, and write its kana. Try to read directly from kana rather than depending only on romaji; it will make new words easier to learn.

Start with あ・い・う. Listen, then pronounce each one yourself.

Explore kana and pronunciation

02 · Build a usable vocabulary

Choose words that help you make everyday sentences. Read the kanji, kana pronunciation and meaning together, then try one sentence of your own. A JLPT level filter keeps the scope manageable, but knowing how a word works in a sentence matters more than simply recognizing it.

食べる(たべる)means “to eat”; 学校(がっこう)means “school.”

Study vocabulary by level

03 · Understand sentence structure

Start with who or what the sentence is about and what happens. Read particles together with the words around them. After reading an explanation, return to the example and see whether you can explain its meaning without looking.

わたしは学生です。The particle は marks the topic and is pronounced wa here.

04 · Use JLPT practice to review

Choose the level you are studying and use a few questions to reveal weak spots. When you miss a question, return to the related vocabulary or grammar. The site’s ten-question quiz is an original vocabulary exercise, not an official exam paper.

Focus one session on a single issue, such as N5 word readings or meanings.

05 · Move from sentences to reading

Short texts connect what you have learned. Read once on your own, look up unfamiliar words, and read again. For longer sentences, separate time, place and action instead of translating every word in order. Save texts you want to revisit to your reading shelf.

今日は図書館で本を読みます。→ Today / at the library / I read a book.

DAILY PRACTICE

A flexible 20-minute daily routine

Adjust this to your level. If kana is familiar, use the first block to review older words.

  1. 5 minutesRead kana aloud or review old words
  2. 7 minutesLearn 3–5 words and read examples
  3. 5 minutesUnderstand one grammar point
  4. 3 minutesRead a short passage or answer a question
QUESTIONS

Questions before you begin

Do I need to memorize every kana before learning words?

Learn the basic kana and sounds first, then strengthen them with simple words. You can move on while some characters still need practice.

Should I learn grammar or vocabulary first?

Learn a little of each together. Make sentences with a few common words, then see what the grammar does in those sentences.

Can I use this route for JLPT preparation?

You can filter vocabulary and grammar by level and use the site’s practice tools. Its quiz is original practice; check the exam organizer’s materials for official exam information.
